From a 2015 Kentucky Watershed Academy workshop, the seeds of a Paint Lick Creek watershed group grew, the Paint Lick Watershed Alliance (Alliance). The Alliance has been building partnerships with local officials, resource agencies, farmers, private landowners, educational institutions and citizen monitoring programs to characterize the watershed, conduct water quality sampling/analysis and to develop a watershed plan for the Upper Paint Lick Creek.
The Alliance hopes to work closely with farmers and residents to identify water quality problems, set goals, identify solutions, assist with the selection of appropriate best management practices (BMPs) and design an implementation program to improve watershed health. The Upper Paint Lick Watershed Plan will be developed to provide a flexible framework for managing water resources.
The Upper Paint Lick Watershed Plan effort is funded by the US Environmental Protection Agency under a Clean Water Act Section 319(h) grant through the Kentucky Division of Water. The Upper Paint Lick Watershed Plan is scheduled to be completed in mid-2021.
