Indiana Bat Spring Migration – Tennessee

Since 2009, the highly trained staff at Copperhead Consulting have radio-tagged female Indiana bats at their hibernacula in Tennessee and tracked them via aerial and ground crews as they migrated to their summer maternity colonies. In addition to locating several previously unknown maternity colonies and making connections from hibernacula to known maternity colonies, behavioral data have also been collected during the migration process. These data include but are not limited to bat flight speed, distance traveled per night and overall, number of feeding/resting stops during the night, effects of weather on flight behavior, and pathways used by migrating Indiana bats.
