Reptiles and Amphibians of Southeastern South Dakota

South Dakota

Copperhead designed, developed and implemented a study plan to survey for and identify amphibians and reptiles of southeast South Dakota. Copperhead biologists scoured a 15 county area over a 2 week period using a multitude of survey and search techniques. Five snake species, four turtle species, four frog and toad species, and one lizard species were recorded during the survey effort. Copperhead incorporated this capture data and historical data on all herptile species with the potential to occur in southeast South Dakota into a comprehensive field guide for use by South Dakota Department of Game, Fish, and Parks.
